Our Story

How it all started...

The Carthage Methodist Church was established in 1846 when Mrs. Joseph Eads became the first member during a revival held by a Methodist circuit rider.
Rev. Alexander S. Parker was appointed as the first pastor in 1847.

The first sanctuary, a wooden frame structure with a belfry, was built at this location in 1889. In 1928 that sanctuary would be replaced by our current sanctuary, a brick building featuring memorial stained glass windows.

Expanding the vision...

Carthage Methodist Church is a caring church. We truly believe that "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." Because of our commitment as a church to this command of Christ, we are a busy church. We make every attempt to be generous with our time, talents and gifts.

Where we are headed...

As individual members, and as a congregation, we are a searching church. We are commanded "ask and it will be given to you; seek and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." We study, search the scriptures, and worship together in order to glorify God, be reconciled to Him through faith in jesus Christ, and to receive and be led by the Holy Spirit.

We are a church with potential. We believe that people living Christian lives will make a positive difference in this community and world. It is this type of Christian life that we are earnestly seeking. We believe that we are able to minister to a variety of people because of the make-up of our church family. We have both young and more mature members, but the significant point about our membership is that we want to have you among us.
